Insurance is an industry that hires a lot of telecommuters, and the work-from-home jobs available are quite a diverse lot, ranging from underwriters and appraisers to case managers and insurance agents, as well as positions in IT and project management. While many insurance companies hire these positions directly as work-at-home jobs, others may offer flexible options for existing employees or part-time telecommuting.
The online application process for these jobs—or perhaps “gigs” is the better word, since they're all for independent contractors—is pretty simple and straightforward with very little required of candidates. Some of these opportunities—like the micro-jobs—you could very well apply and start the same day. And these jobs require very little commitment and can typically be done on your own schedule.
Telework flexibility is a desirable prerequisite for employees. A 2008 Robert Half International Financial Hiring Index, a survey of 1,400 CFOs by recruitment firm Robert Half International, indicated that 13% consider telework the best recruiting incentive today for accounting professionals. In earlier surveys, 33% considered telework the best recruiting incentive, and half considered it second best.

Pitches to be your own boss. Our Consumer Action Center is hearing from a lot of callers who go to help-wanted sites, find an opportunity that looks good and then contact the supposed employer. It turns out to be a pitch for owning your own business, with promises of huge money. Unfortunately, the only ones making money are the people pushing startup kits and related costs.
Turnover intention, or the desire to leave the organization, is lower for teleworkers. Those teleworkers who experienced greater professional isolation actually had lower turnover intent. One study found that by increasing feedback and task identity through clear communication of goals, objectives, and expectations, turnover intent decreased in teleworkers and quality of work output increased.
Note: Nearly all of these programs require an upfront investment for purchasing your initial inventory. They’re not our first choice when it comes to work from home jobs for this reason alone. We don’t like seeing users getting stuck with thousands of dollars in inventory only to realize they’re trying to offload their LuLaRoe into already saturated markets.
